  • Barbells for Boobs will be held at our box this Friday, Dec. 2nd, from 4pm-6pm. Wear your favorite shade of pink!

  • Dec. 17th will be our annual Big Bang Crossfit Christmas Party. Come and enjoy and celebrate a night with your Big Bang family! We will be having a pot luck and will be playing secret santa and white elephant. Sign ups for the potluck and the Secret Santa are up at the box.

  • Toys 4 Tots is also happening at our box. We will be delivering the gifts personally to Children's Hospital LA (CHLA).

  • January 21st, Miranda Oldroyd and Julian Alcaraz will be doing a nutrition seminar at Big Bang Crossfit. Please contact Nando if you are interested. $45 for members.

November Spotlight Athlete

For the month of November, our spotlight athlete is Ernie Alvarez. He used to be a regular at our 4pm class, but now you'll usually find him in our later classes. He's always full of energy, full of jokes, and ready to dance.

What is your occupation?

Graphic Designer

Who introduced you to Crossfit and what made you start?

My buddies Eddie Medal and Christopher Lorenzo at Crossfit Monrovia introduced me to Crossfit. I personally started Crossfit becasue I was out of shape and honestly couldn't motivate myself to get back into shape, I found that our Crossfit family (4o’clock crew AKA “the stepchildren”) encouraged me to workout.

What did you do before Crossfit?

Before Crossfit I would workout at 24hr fitness with Eddie Medal and Rene Castro. I also played sports in adult leagues, like soccer, basketball, football and kick-ball (yes, kickball)

How long have you been doing Crossfit?

I have been doing Crossfit consistently 4 times a week for about 2 years now.

What's your favorite workout?

My favorite workouts have to be any that incorporate movements like; toes to bar, sit-ups, power cleans, and deadlifts.

What's your favorite movement? Least favorite movement?

My favorite movement has to be, toes to bar and least favorite are thrusters.

What are your current goals?

My current goals are to work on my mobility, range of motion, and my eating habits. (I am being aggressive on taking care of my overall health by seeing Dr. Simon at Ideal Body Chiropractic in Fullerton, Daryl Cox at Her & His Bodyworks in Whittier, and now ordering all my meals at Fierro’s Kitchen)

What has been you're biggest milestone so far in your Crossfit journey?

My biggest mile stone in my crossfit journey has to be how consistent my attendance has been for the past two years.

Who or what inspires you to do Crossfit, and what keeps you motivated?

The motivation and inspiration comes from my coaches Fernando, Vic, Javier, Nat, and Oscar; and my close workout partners/friends/family Rene, Casey, Carlos, Cliff and the rest of the 4 O’clock “The Stepchildren” crew. I can’t leave out the Divas class; I give them sh*t every day for being on HGH (LOL) but they are machines and I appreciate their dedication and hard work.

What's your favorite cheat meal?

My favorite cheat meal has to be hot wings and beer.

What advice would you give to new people coming in?

My only advise to someone who is new to crossfit is to just come in and try it, I’m not sure about other crossfit gyms, but Big Bang has a great mixture of AWESOME people. Most of these people now I consider great friends. We hang-out on weekend, text back n forth, and just truly care for what is going on in each other’s lives.
